NF-(Ashaiman)- Mr. Romeo Elikplim Akahoho, executive secretary Chamber for Local Governance (ChaLoG), one of Ghana’s best local governance think tanks, has called for the President Nana Akufo- Addo to nominate a more responsible candidates to be considered as MMDCEs in the country.
This he said could help abate the current heightened insecurity in the country.
In a telephone interview with newsfarmgh.com Mr.Elikplim further noted that, the President should consult the traditional authorities within the various districts including the polling station executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituencies adding that such persons could not be over looked.
He further revealed that, such a move by the president would reduce the pressure been mounted on the acting Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in some constituencies by party faithfuls.
Mr.Akahoho, detailed that past precedence, citing 2017 where some levels of misconducts were recorded in some constituencies during the appointment of MMDCEs mentioning Ada East, Krowor and Tarkwa-Nsuaem where party supporters went haywire because they felt the persons nominated by the President was not a grass root person and was not fit for the job.
The ChaLoG secretary, again hinted that current agitations at the Asuogyaman constituency where some concerned Supporters of the ruling NPP claimed a non-grassroots person should not be nominated by the President as their DCE,
adding that the Tema Traditional Council (TTC)have also raised some concerns regarding the nominations of non-indigene as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).
Mr.Romeo Akahoho suggested that the president should announce the names of the various nominees who would serve as MMDCEs in due course
